This is the honest review that I gave after receiving a free copy of Chris Strange's book, Don't Be a Hero.
The Things I Liked:
From the start, this book had me hooked. It's a great, fantastical read full of diverse and multi-leveled characters. I couldn't stop reading it. The atmosphere and mood were awesome and gave the book a very unique, special quality. The thing I liked most about this book was the fact that it written by an indie author. As an indie author myself, it was really exciting to see someone with as much talent and skill (in my opinion) as the big league authors like Terry Brooks or Steven King. It was so well written that I didn't want to put it down and the plot was probably one of my favorites. I loved everything about it and it is easily one of top favorite books. The metahumans and superheros are right up my alley but the dark, noir feel to it was a really enjoyable twist. It is the honestly a great read.
The Things I Didn't Like:
This is a tough category in regards to the fact that, as far as the writing and story goes, there is nothing I would really regard as a negative with this book. The only thing I would say is that the plot was somewhat predictable. I do stress, however, that it was only marginally predictable. The author did keep me guessing and there were things I didn't see coming. However, my biggest gripe with Don't Be A Hero is the fact that it ended. And that the author has not continued the book or expanded on the universe since I read it last. I found it so engaging that I wanted it to continue on, but it didn't. And that sucks.
Overall, I would definitely recommend this book to anyone with a superhero fixation like myself. I would even recommend it to those of you who don't. Chris Strange is a brilliant writer.
Stars: Five out of Five.
